- Rips / undertow
- Man-made danger (buoys etc..)
- Localism
It's a fast hollow spot, it gets pretty steep sometimes, on the weekdays if its good it's pretty crowded otherwise it's not to bad. On the weekend it's crowded too if it's good.
Atmosphere
Good atmosphere and all the local good guys surf next to the sea wall.
General
I think it's an awesome spot and they have pro contests here so you know it's a good spot.

East Coast Quality - I used to frequent this beach quite regularly. It is a solid right that is rideable large and small. If you are in the area, don’t miss it. This place may be more localized than most, but after seeing Fort Point, Steamer Lane, and Windn’Sea, you will realize these locals are a bunch of softies.

Memories from 2001 - I once again went over www.wannasurf.com and couldn't help taking a peek at Hatteras, photos and comments. I haven't been around for years now and I definetely miss it... The incredibly muggy weather conditions of September, the water temps in the summer, the bar downtown with the pool table(s), dickheads locals that thought it was funny when 2 russian tourists were killed by bull sharks (2001 if I remember well), anyway...I love everything about this spot... I'm French and I don't remember having seen any of my type around back then...I wonder if now...forget it...it's too exclusive a spot for French tourists, not close enough from Martinique or you name it.Well, I wish I were there right now, to flight from the gray and wet coldness that we've been having for months now.

Position - I think the map's marker is wrong on the positioning of the real lighthouse break, it's a little more north, where the island takes a slight cut inwards. That's where the lighthouse used to be, right next to the ocean, and although they've moved it, the jetties are still there helping maintain a surf. This is definitely one of my favorite spots, and I've been coming to Hatteras since I was five months old.
