Atmosphere

This bank is not always there so it may go months on end without a single wave but when the bank does build up with a clean swell heading its way its on.

NC--Outer Banks - As a fellow east coaster, I will tell you that North Carolina's outer banks--paticuarily Hatteras Island are possibly the most consistent place on the East Coast. They do indeed get good, a solid hurricane or mid winter low on the right sandbar will translate to overhead barrels in the right conditions. California is probably somewhat more consistent but once again, an overhead day is an overhead day. Crowds can be bad in the best known places, but Hatteras has countless unridden sandbars, probably like Mystics. Generally the West Coast has more points, but the water on the Outer Banks is clean and does get into the low 40s in the winter but still can be managed by a 5/4 mm wetsuit. The cops are bad but if u have NC liscense plates you get a little more slack

Looks fun - I just wasted 10 dollars in Mexican gas driving to chase a fresh south swell from Baja Malibu all the way to K 38. The swell was solid 4 to 6 from a New Zealander or something. Every LA shredder and his buddy was out. It was windblown. Summer Baja. Everybody thinks it is the ultimate destination. Well I live here, have for 7 years. Yeah, it can have it's day. But the hype does not match the reality. I would have given up the 10$ in Pemex just to drop in on a peak like the one pictured here. Water is probably alot fresher and cleaner too. Tomorrow it may be going OFF here with a low tide and a maxing swell, but you know what? It just doesn't appeal to me with thousands of wave starved maggots dropping in. See you in N.C. The west coast is OVER and done, stick a fork in it. How are your federales there in the area? Can't be as bad as here. By the way, the best wave in California is actually probably Malibu. But you can't ride it. 300 guys in the lineup each one trying to make a name for himself. Never seen or ridden a more fun set up here in the [smoggy] Golden State. And I been surfing for 40 years. Where is N.C.'s equivalent break? I know, you think I'm crazy, there isn't one. If there is don't tell me.

pumba - ya i surfed this place 100 years ago on a plank from a wrecked pirate ship.Shiver me timbers i was gettin 100 foot a-frames until a tiger shark called nemo took me left leg, but i got his right flipper so i figuer were even.so then sinbad came along and we went to a deserted island and played ali babba all night long.but when i found the treasure sinbad turned on me and the only thing that saved me from walking the plank was a giant minnow(about 69 feet long) that came and ate sinbad.i named the minnow charlie and we went under the sea and hung out in the octopusses garden.we went fishing and i caught a giant sea horse.i kept it for a pet and learned how to ride it pretty well.but then it got eaten by a tunabass and so i killed charlie and ate him raw.like sushi.then i went on a majic carpet ride to seattle and jammed with jimi hendrix.by the way, ill have the cream of sumyoungguy.
