Santa Catarina is one of the most human and industrial developed states in Brazil. Besides it is considered the best and the most beautiful state to make tourism. People are kind and beautiful, you walk safe through the streets, you have good hotels structure, good roads and airports, and thousands of beaches to know. If you come to Santa Catarina in the winter, you can surf 12ft-15ft at Vila becha in Imbituba city one day, and the other day climb the hills, heading Lages or São Joaquim citis to see the snow. If you are in the summer, you can surf Imbitube, Garopaba or Florianópolis in the day, and take a short trip to Balneário Camboriú at night to have real fun at the clubs and stores and malls. Santa catarina is absolutely cosmopolitan. A great state for sure. And it is the best surf area in Brazil. It picks bigger swells coming from the South Atlantic and Antartica, even from African Atlantic Ocean side. The best period is from Late March to early November, but the swells are very consistent year around. Always take your wetsuit with you.
Seasonal swell & wind variations:
During summer, it recives a lot of swell from the east and southesat. And during the rest of the year from the south and southwest.

- description is not accurate. northern santa catarina doesn´t get the southern swells, they just pass by, as its coast is mostly facing NE, and because of the island of santa catarina, that blocks these swells. if you happen to be in this state, go to Florianopolis island, or the southern coast, which are a lot more exposed to swells.surf on this coast relies on SE/E/NE swells, which aren´t usually big nor constant. But, they do have some very nice point breaks, mostly right-handers, that will break on big SE/E swells. they also have some trouble with localism in a very few locations. though, it´s a very beutiful region, with nice parties in summer, especially around balneario camboriú.

Norhern RECEIVES South swells!!! - The island of sao Francisco really receives south swells during Winter!! I lived there and I saw/surfed all that big swells in Prainha, aroud 5-6 feet rights, even 8 feet for the correct conditions!
