One hour on the good roads from São Paulo. You can either take SP 150 (Anchieta) or SP 160 (Imigrantes) and will be there in around 45 to 50 minutes. There is a tax to use the road, the cost is R$ 17,80. DistanceIn the city WalkInstant access (< 5min) Easy to find?Easy to find Public access?Public access Special accessDon't know |

Atmosphere
It's a good place for beginner, but to get outside you will burn your biceps. The wave is slow and fat so you can bring you funboard or longboard to catch the waves more easier. If rain for more than two days, the beach turns into a garbage disposal.
General
I think that small swell breaks better, and it's more fun to surf.
The best swell direction is South-East.
There's another 2 points in this city:
Canto do Forte: It's in the end of the beach.
It's better when comes a South swell.
Casco: You will see a boat on the beach avenue.

The Wave is not that bad. - I don't agree with "Sloopy" wave quality. Praia Grande has some very nice waves, and very good surfers. You can see the pictures, the wave is really extense and you can get a lot of fun.. In the inside you can get stronger waves...As always, if conditions are OK, you can have a classic session.
The big advantage is that the city is near São Paulo, but riding a little more, you can get better waves in Guaruja.
Even so, Praia Grande is cheapper, you don't have to worry with locals, since the beach is huge, you will find yourself a place in the water.
In big days waves are great, but really hard to reach.... It's true will have to paddle a lot, but it's always worth...
