Ballena, unlike most waves in this region, breaks best on big SW and W swells. Summer swells tend to peel too fast. A fast down the line tube ride. Never as crowded as Mancora but not as reliable either. Closes out above 6-7 feet. A good alternative if the point is too crowded. Too many rocks at low tide.
Atmosphere
Mancora is a great town! Easy lodging, eating and drinking!

Simply a Jewel ! - This is a great place to practice for El Hueco and Panic Point. Very fast, don't dally! When this place is really going off most locals head to Panic, El Hueco/Lobitos, so you can get some sick waves with minimal crowd. Strong W swells spells tubitos! Because this wave works best with STRONG SW or W wintertime swells, know that this packs a much stronger punch than Mancora's point, and that a wipeout on the first or second wave of a set means a punishing welcome against sharp, shallow rocks. 2 Meters is a scary thing so close to the rocks! Wear a helmet and ten cuidado!

Punta Ballenas - This spot is very close tu Mancora spot (left side). You can get there by a 3 minutes walk. Basically is a very fast left were you can get nice barrels. Be there at 5.45 - 6 am when there´s a medium - big swell going off. The problem is that at this hour the tide is very low and you can get lots of trouble with hidden and sharp rocks.
