if you go to Ilo ask around for a surfer named Memo, he's one of the few locals in the area, and know what spots will be good and when, plus he know a bunch of secret spots that we discovered when i lived there.
Atmosphere
pretty powerfull on a good day, my friend broke his board in three pieces. its best in the morning. Its cool cause its so quiet, empty and grey, sometimes it gets freaky when the waves are big.
General
great spot. well known throughout peru as a good strong tube.

- this place is perfect....no matter how small or big it always has good tubes, and for the most part pretty scary.

jake, here, bodyboarder from LA - when you get to ilo, go to the mexican restaurant around the corner from hospedaje milagros. there, ask for richie. he's a cool-ass local that will take you around and show you some good places to surf.
i rode piedras today in 7-8 ft swell. there was a bit too much west in the swell, so i had to take off pretty shallow to avoid getting closed out. apparently the wave stays open really nice on a direct south swell. powerfull wave. really fun...
