cuyagua - I was in cuyagua a few weeks ago (early october, 06). There was an okay place to stay called posada casa grande at the end of town, you can get there by bus to the square from el playon, then just walk up a few blocks. it was Bs. 35000 a night for 2 beds, a fan, and a screen with holes. There are a few other places advertising habitaciones too. Make sure to arrive on a weekend though cause the place shuts down and even the owners leave but you can make an arrangement to stay. The bad part was its a 30 minute walk to the beach on a road through the jungle and the bugs were pretty bad on the way back in the afternoon. Also, its hard to get food sometimes as restaurants are sporadic. The beach is beautiful, except for all the garbage left by weekenders, but the surf wasnt great... short closeouts, about 3 feet while i was there and a bit rocky. I wouldnt say this is a great place to spend a lot of time surfing but if you just want a super slow pace of life, and a nice beach to hang out, it might be good. The weekend was super crowded but no one in the week. If you really want to travel somewhere for surf and warm water though I'd say venezuela isnt the place to travel, try ecuador or peru. Email me if you want to ask more.
