Atmosphere
I visited this spot during the off season in august. Its a sleepy little town but for how long ?they are building hotels. Locals were friendly.
Note: michoacan region seems to be in trouble those last months. Have look and check the locals before to go.
General
Spitting beach break barrels, breaks kinda far out though. watch out for strong side shore currents. Beautiful black sand beach with mountains in the background. I was told there's a right point farther down the beach from the town. You can see it from the beach. Time was limited for me so I didnt get a chance to check it. This point breaks beside a mountain which will block a north wind. Its worth a look if you're in the area.

me too, I LOVE SAN JUAN A LOT. - Well....
I think, that's the best place in all Michoacan. That's because i've borned there but now i'm in CA getting some cash and one day I'LL BE BACK.

Close outs! - Searched most of the Jalisco coast and except for the main 2 breaks (& rare days), it's all close outs. If these beautiful little towns would build artificial reefs with the abandoned hotels in the area, they would have more business than they could handle. San Juan could easily have twenty artificial reefs across its four miles of close outs.
