La Serena - Stayed here for a bunch of days in July '06. Big surf, cold as shit. Very challenging for beginners.. overhead the days I was out. long paddle out. Rented from the lone shop on the beach. We were the only ones in the water the entire day.

nice in December - Visited La Serena in late December 2004. The weather was cool and cloudy. The beach was completely empty, not a soul in the water. A lone surf rental shop is on the beach, it was around $25 for a board and suit. The waves were decent to challenging for a beginner, 4' to 6' and powerful from the south. Lots of great hotels and restaurants along the strip. Apparently it's a zoo during high season, but I'd recommend it for anyone visiting Chile.

Pretty hard for a beginner - This wave in a big day is not for beginners as you can see in picture number two.
